John Popper and the Death of H.O.R.D.E.
All-Music Guide, National
Jul 9th, 1999

John Popper told a college interviewer recently that he believes the one-date festivals sponsored by radio will render the touring festival extinct. Therefore he has no plans to continue H.O.R.D.E., which he co-founded in 1992. "Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere" has run every summer for seven years, and over that time has featured Popper's Blues Traveler, Neil Young, Phish, the Allman Brothers Band, Black Crowes, the Dave Matthews Band, Natalie Merchant and Beck. No official announcement has been made regarding the festival's future.

Meanwhile, Popper was released from an L.A. hospital last weekend following surgery to clear a blocked artery in his heart. The incident has caused all recent gigs to be postponed, including the live debut of the John Popper Band, which has a debut album due in September called Zygote.
