04-03-2001John Popper sits in with Allman Brothers; Tour dates finalizing

At the Allman Brothers Band's yearly run of New York shows, the band customarily invites any and all musicians in the area to sit in and jam with them. John Popper first guested at the "Peakin' At The Beacon" gigs in 1996, when he jumped in on March 15th for four tunes. This year, John outdid himself by appearing not once, but twice, first on March 23rd for five songs, then again the next night for another two. Popper was joined by the likes of Richie Morales, Dick Griffin, Chuck Leavell, Jeff Potts, Larry McCray and John Manning.

Shortly after sending out her newsletter, Gina announced that this spring's Tour Dates are nearly solidified. The New York date rumored to be on May 8th has yet to be confirmed, and while there may be another date or two added to the tour in mid or late May, the schedule is 99% set. The tour will commence with a four-day run in mid-April, take a short break for the recently-rescheduled video shoot [now taking place in New York City the week of the 15th], and then pick up at the end of the month and tour through the end of May. After a month break, the band returns to Red Rocks, after which they plan on embarking on a summer tour, the details of which have yet to be fully decided. The band is reportedly considering several ideas, one of which includes a "mini-HORDE", in Gina's words, where the band would travel with multiple openers over the summer.
