10-10-2001Fall tour finishes; Star-Spangled Banner>Freedom mp3 now available; Short winter tour in the works; John Popper to appear with Saturday Night Live band

Blues Traveler's fall tour wrapped up last weekend with a set at SUNY Fredonia's Steele Fieldhouse. For the fourteenth time in fourteen shows since the disasters of September 11th, the band included their rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner as a tribute to America. All but one of the shows on the tour ended up going ahead as scheduled, the lone exception being the September 12th gig at New Mexico State University.

To further honor their country, the band has released an mp3-only live recording of the national anthem, segued into Freedom. This recording is believed to be from the Rialto Theater in Tucson, AZ, their first public performance after the tragedies in New York, and can be downloaded from the front page of this site as well as from bluestraveler.com.

A recently-published interview with bassist Tad Kinchla indicates that the band plans to return to the road in mid-November and kick off a four-week tour through the middle of December. The only known dates so far are listed on the Tour Dates page, and include a December 1st showing in Chicago and a casino date in Mount Pleasant, MI on December 13th. Rumors are circulating about a San Francisco show for Thanksgiving, breaking with the tradition of a New York-area turkey day show, but nothing is confirmed yet beyond indications that the band would like to return to the west coast. As more tour dates surface they will be posted here.

For those of you who can't wait to see Blues Traveler again, tune in to your local NBC station this Saturday night to catch John Popper. He will be sitting in with the Saturday Night Live Band all night. The host is Drew Barrymore and the musical guest is Macy Gray.
