12-13-2003Welcome to the newest Kinchla!; John to sit in with The Dead and Spin Doctors?; DJ Logic to join Wasserman & Popper

Congratulations are in order for Chan and Serena Kinchla, who welcomed the newest member of the Traveler family this past Saturday. Rowan Oliver Blaze Kinchla, all 10+ pounds of him, was born on the afternoon of December 6th to the proud parents. Little Aydin is now a big brother at the age of (almost) six. Congratulations again!

In other news, rumors are flying about John sitting in with variuos bands in the upcoming weeks. A reliable source has informed BluesTraveler.net that John has been invited as a "surprise guest" to sit in with The Dead at tonight's Seva Benefit in Berkeley, California, as part of the organization's 30th anniversary celebration. Also on the bill are Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, and more. This would mark John's first sit-in with The Dead since November 3rd, 1991, when John played a few tunes at the memorial concert for legendary rock promoter Bill Graham, who had died a week earlier. A setlist will be posted here as soon as it is available. Tickets, meanwhile, are still on sale for the event through Ticketmaster. Another rumor making the rounds is that of John sitting in with old friends the Spin Doctors. The Spins will be playing this New Year's Eve as the opening act for Gov't Mule, so expectations are reasonable that John will make an appearance with the main act. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet from either camp but an update is sure to come.

Finally, an additional guest artist has been confirmed for the upcoming Rob Wasserman/John Popper show - longtime Wasserman collaborator DJ Logic will be appearing as well. This will top off a week of activity for the band and members in the Bay area, from a taping of the Sharon Osbourne show, to Thursday's Blues Traveler concert in Cupertino, to tonight's rumored sit-in and the "Evening of Whatever Comes to Mind". After this flurry, the band is expected to take a break until their annual Tahoe gigs in January or February.
