03-30-2004John Popper Project returns; John engaged; New front-of-house engineer; More spring/summer dates

After a month's respite, John Popper news abounds once more. The same team that brought you the Suite 16/Conduit shows have scheduled another pair of gigs in home sweet New York City home. The two shows will take place at the 200-capacity Tap Bar in the famous Knitting Factory on Monday, May 3rd and Tuesday, May 4th. Tickets for each show are $27 and are on sale now via TicketWeb. To coincide with this announcement, the John Popper team has authored a pair of videos, now viewable at johnpopper.net - the newly-penned "Everything" and a cover of Alabama 3's "Woke Up This Morning", better known as the theme song to The Sopranos. The band has also donated a signed poster which is being auctioned off as part of the Mimi Fishman Foundation Charity Auction - bidding runs through 9pm CST this coming Saturday.

Other news coming from the last few weeks - not only has John completed his move to the Pacific Northwest, but he is no longer a single man. He announced between songs at the March 26th Collingswood show that he recently proposed to his longtime girlfriend. Congratulations to John and Delana! Also, fans who prefer the back of the venue to the front will notice a new face at the sound board - Brian Anderson is the latest addition to the Blues Traveler family. Brian comes to BT by way of band manager Scott McGhee - the two got to know each other when Brian ran sound for another band Scott managed. An invite was extended a couple of weeks back, and Brian made his debut at the March 17th show at the Blue Note in Columbia. Longtime crew member Bo Mahoney, who had been manning the board since the departure of Rich Vink in 1998, is still with the band and can be seen just about everywhere you turn on stage, keeping the younger crew members in line.

Several new dates have also been tentatively added since the last update; though as always dates are not officially confirmed until they are added to the calendar on the official web site. Among the additions other than the newly-added John Popper Project shows:
- 04/16/04 Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN
- 04/21/04 Innsbrook Pavilion, Glen Allen, VA
- 05/28/04 Tower City Amphitheater, Cleveland, OH
