05-21-2004Memorial Day weekend shows cancelled; John feeling better after minor surgery

The following announcement was just released by the band:

Blues Traveler cancels the following shows.
  • May 27th, Indianapolis, IN. WTTS Radio
  • May 28th, Cleveland OH. Rib Fest
  • May 29th Boston MA. WXRV Radio
  • May 30th, St. Louis, MO. Rib Fest

After being forced to cancel a show on April 15th at Delta State University, and continuing to feel exhausted while finishing the tour, John Popper met with his doctors in New York where he had to have minor surgery and was told he must rest for at least 3-4 weeks before he can tour again.

John's health is great and he is going to be fine, his doctors said he will soon feel better than has felt in a long time. Blues Traveler will be touring all summer and in the fall and they will play the cities where they have cancelled.

We apologize for any inconveniences and we know fans are disappointed, as is the band, but the good news is John is fine and Blues Traveler will be touring again soon.

See you this summer,
Blues Traveler.

John is said to be feeling better than he has felt since his gastric bypass surgery some three years ago, and is already out and walking around. His doctors reportedly were in disbelief that John had been performing at all prior to the most recent surgery, and his voice and breathing should improve vastly when the band hits the road again. In the meantime, summer tour dates continue to pop up on various web sites and news stories. The latest announcements include a return to Highland Park's Ravinia Festival Pavilion on July 27th, and the first August date, an August 23rd concert as part of the Central States Fair in Rapid City, SD. Also confirmed recently are a July 25th show at the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee, a show at Promowest Pavilion in Columbus, OH on July 10th, and an appearance at the Common Ground Festival in Lansing, MI on July 8th. A more complete summer tour announcement is expected within the week.
