Sounds
by Dan DePrez
Willamette Week, Portland, OR
Oct 9th, 1991

This band starts with blues (obviously) but doesn't stay there long. The guys have honed a feel for how to charge up a crowd, and in this case that means mixing in some jazz, psychedelic and funk influences. Bands with a decade's less experience can put on funny hats these days and be considered daring genre benders. In the case of BT, this is merely the "roadhouse way," as followed by soulmates NRBQ. The rhythm section of Bobby Sheehan and Brendan Hill is versatile and solid as a mountain, and John Popper gets sounds from a blues harp that logic tells us cannot be made.
