03-27-2000Brendan's birthday CD; John Popper to appear on VH-1 compilation; Possible Red Rocks opener rumored

Happy birthday to Brendan Hill, who hits the big 3-0 today, and to John Popper, who celebrates tomorrow. Brendan and his side band, Stolen Ogre, announced today that their first studio album Grind is now available through their web site at www.stolenogre.com.

John will also be appearing on a new CD released by VH-1 on April 25th. Combined with his guest spots on Hanson's disc This Time Around, due out May 9th [Popper sits in on "If Only" and "In the City"], this will make for a Popper-ful two weeks. The VH-1 disc, entitled Best of Storytellers, features a version of Regarding Steven that most likely was recorded at his appearance at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah earlier this year. The show was broadcast by VH-1 over their web site, and the disc also features HORDE alums Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow and Natalie Merchant.

More immediately, John will make an appearance on the John Lydon-hosted show "Rotten Television". Also filmed at the Sundance Film Festival, this episode of the show will feature other artists appearing at the Fest, including actors, musicians and the famous "industry types". For more information on "Rotten TV", see www.rottentv.com. The second episode, featuring Popper, will air on VH-1 on April 2nd at 11pm, and will be re-run on April 5th at the same time.

In the last bit of news, the first name to surface as a Red Rocks opener is Sonia Dada, the Chicago-based octet most famous for their song "You Don't Treat Me No Good" off of their self-titled debut album in 1992. Other names have been tossed around but Sonia Dada's popularity in Colorado is undoubtedly a plus in drawing fans to Red Rocks. Official information will be posted here when it is announced.
