04-18-2001Mini-run kicks off Spring Tour; More changes/additions; Opener for May

Blues Traveler began their spring tour in earnest with a brief four-show run in the mid-Atlantic area last weekend, busting out three songs for the first time and playing a total of nine songs out of twelve that appear on the upcoming Bridge. The run ended with a two-night stand at the NorVa in Norfolk, VA, where opener Pat McGee Band lent percussionist Chardy McEwan to Bagheera, vocalist Pat McGee to No Woman, No Cry, and guitarist Brian Fechino to a searing, set-closing Mountain Cry the first night. Popper then repaid the favor by sitting in on Whipping Post to close the openers' set the second night. He also found time before the short run to show up at Finney's in Doylestown, Pennsylvania to play an improv blues number with local rock band Sons Of Mothers.

According to the official web site, the May 2nd date in Raleigh, NC has been cancelled due to "scheduling conflicts". No more information was offered. The July 3rd gig in Steamboat Springs is officially on; tickets go on sale on Saturday through sciticketing.com for $35. Another summer date has cropped up as well - tickets.com has a listing for Blues Traveler and G-Love and Special Sauce on August 22nd at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. This would be the first pairing of the bands since the days of the H.O.R.D.E. Festival in 1996. And speaking of openers, pollstar.com and tourdates.com both indicate that singer-songwriter Pete Yorn will be opening for the band starting on May 9th in Philadelphia. Yorn is perhaps best known for his contributions to the soundtrack of "Me, Myself and Irene"; more information is available at his web site.
