01-10-2005Ten years of Blues Traveler news online!; Two dates already scheduled for John Popper in 2005

Happy New Year and welcome to the tenth calendar year of Blues Traveler news on the web! The earliest news stories on Misha Rutman's old site date back to 1995, featuring goodies such as old friend Dave Swanson discussing what would eventually become Live From The Fall, info on the band's first appearance on "Saturday Night Live", and the nomination and eventual winning of a Grammy Award.

Meanwhile, the band continues to soldier on, and John in particular. Recent news reports indicate that John will be playing a private event at the House of Blues in Washington, DC as part of the inauguration festivities; an article in The Hill indicates that it will be part of an afterparty for an event honoring vice president Dick Cheney. On a more publicly available note, news from Florida reveals that longtime Allman Brothers Band drummer and erstwhile Frogwings percussionist Butch Trucks has launched a two-day festival near his West Palm Beach home, to be called the Wanee Festival. Not only will Popper be making an appearance on Saturday, April 16th, but the site's schedule also lists a "Frogwings Jam" later that night. Given that fellow former Frogwings members Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge's bands will also be in attendance - not to mention Warren Haynes, the hardest working man in show business - the jam possibilities are nothing short of intriguing.
