04-02-2005Blues Traveler plays Tempe Music Festival; Signing with Vanguard becomes official, BT to promote new Toshiba music player

Blues Traveler played their second public show in 2005 tonight (and first under the official name, after the late-night special appearance by the Ben Wilson 5 on March 6th); the show was part of the Tempe Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona's Beach Park Amphitheater. Reports from the show indicate that unlike the March gig, no new material made it into the setlist, likely due to the show's festival setting. The band was sandwiched between the Bodeans and Collective Soul on the schedule, which was followed by Live to close out the night.

While no news has come from the home office, this likely means that the band is close to finishing up their album, produced by former Wilco whiz Jay Bennett, and will take a couple of weeks off before John Popper takes the road for two weeks with his Project. In the meantime, it appears that the album and the band have found their new home - Vanguard Records, as previously reported here. An article published this week on Billboard's web site revealed the band's plans, as well as the fact that Blues Traveler's music will be used to promote a new digital media player from Toshiba. Industry reports indicate that this new player is the Gigabeat, which debuted in Japan in late 2004. For those who read Japanese, more information can be viewed here. It has not yet been announced exactly what Blues Traveler's involvement in promoting the new player but information is expected to come shortly.
