10-20-2006John Popper Project now touring and appearing on Sirius; Blues Traveler to appear on album tribute to The Band

The John Popper Project tour has officially kicked off, and reports are that there were several tapers in attendance at the inaugural show. The setlist can be seen here, and read more legibly here; there was also reportedly a cover of Alabama 3's "Woke Up This Morning", better known as the Soprano's theme song and a recent occasional cover by both Blues Traveler and the John Popper Project. To celebrate the recent release of the album and the beginning of the tour, John and DJ Logic will be hosting the "Saturday Night Dance Party" on Sirius "Jam On", channel #17. The program airs tomorrow, Saturday, from 9pm to midnight eastern time. To subscribe, or listen for free online, head to www.sirius.com.

In other news, it was recently announced that Blues Traveler has been chosen to be a part of a tribute album to The Band, entitled Endless Highway - The Music Of The Band. Though Blues Traveler does count one cover of The Band among their repertoire, it was a one-off 1996 cover of "The Weight", played with two members of The Wallflowers, who were covering the song regularly at the time. Instead, Blues Traveler will be covering "Rag Mama Rag", a tune from The Band's second, self-titled album. Endless Highway - The Music Of The Band, issued by 429 Records, will hit stores on January 30th, 2007.
